THE PROBLEM
Within the medical device sector, over 60 million inhalers are distributed across the UK alone every year, but only 0.5% of these are recycled.
The cosmetic packaging sector produces 120 billion units a year, of which less than 14% reach recycling facilities and less than 9% are recycled.
The result is an enormous volume of cosmetic packaging and single-use medical devices ending up in landfill and ultimately being consumed by us through the generation of microplastics and their relative bioaccumulation.
Why should items that are meant to help us, be detrimental to human and global health?

OUR SOLUTION
&
PRODUCTS
SymbioTex’s unique material utilises natural and sustainable materials to produce home compostable pellets as a plug and play solution for the plastics industry.
Unlike fossil fuels, materials from sustainably cultivated biological resources offer a circular solution. Natual material products derived by organisms like seaweed, do not create harmful by-products during their degradation – in fact, as these materials degrade it nitrogen, phosphorous and other elements are released into the surrounding environment, with strong fertilisation and bioactive potential.

SYMBIOTEX MATERIAL KEY FEATURES
Our pellets are processable on standard industry machinery, but at lower temperatures than plastic. This offers a seamless plug-and-play solution to plastics manufacturers who can replace their current fossil fuel based plastic pellets with our biobased home compostable material.

SymbioTex aims to use its patented technology to manufacture plug and play plastic substitutes for manufacturers, allowing them to create the same products but with material that is home compostable. We listen closely to the needs and expectations of our customers and tailor, where possible, product to their needs – whether this be flexibility, time to degradation, colour, texture or other mechanical properties.

OUR VISION
SymbioTex’s vision is to disrupt this harmful cycle by displacing as much landfilled single use rigid plastic as we can. We have created a sustainable and truly home compostable material that can be used to revolutionise the production of packaging and medical devices currently made from single-use plastic.
We are well aware that not all plastic items can be displaced (from a volume perspective or from a technical performance perspective), however our solution aims to displace items which meet volumes and technical performance requirements; all at a reasonable price point.
We make sustainable materials work.
Transforming the environmental impact of these items will help to embrace a healthier future for our planet and improved health and well-being for consumers around the world.
